China Passes Hong Kong Security Law

China, on Tuesday, passed the controversial National Security Law which the multiple local media outlets reported. This sparked the fear among the residents and critics which they felt mainland type of politics will be followed in Hong Kong.

China’s top lawmaking body, The National Standing Community has unanimously approved the legislation on Tuesday morning.

Beijing says the law banning subversion, secession, terrorism, and colluding with foreign forces is needed to return stability to Hong Kong after a year of angry pro-democracy protests.

The opponents feared that the demolish in freedom of Hong Kong which has been cherished as the business hub and enjoyed political freedom and autonomy from mainland China.

Beijing bypassed Hong Kong’s legislature to pass the law, which was signed off just six weeks after it was first announced. This was an unprecedented move by China and there were multiple protests and riots in Hong Kong when the law was announced.

“I think at this moment, it is not appropriate for me to comment on any questions related to the national security law,” Carry Lam – A pro-Beijing appointee has said to the reporters however he declined to comment anything further.

Many western governments, the right group, and the UN had expressed alarm over the controversial law.
