India will celebrate Independence Day on August 15. Like every year, people are confused about whether it is the 73rd Indian Independence Day or the 74th. The confusion arises from the fact that many people do not understand the difference between Independence Day and the year of Independence. This confusion is common because many of us face this while we calculate our age.
On August 15, 1947, when India got free from British rule and decided to be an independent democracy. Let us do some basic maths even though India got its Independence on 15th August 1947 it completes 1 year on 15th August 1948, so we celebrated the 1st year anniversary in 1948.
- 10th Anniversary in 1957
- 20th Anniversary in 1967
- 30th Anniversary in 1977
- 40th Anniversary in 1987
- 50th Anniversary in 1997
- 60th Anniversary in 2007
- 70th Anniversary in 2017
So now only 3 years left if 71st Anniversary in 2018, 72nd Anniversary in 2019, then 73rd Anniversary in 2020, is the analysis correct? Yes but can be view slightly different.
On 15th August 2020, it completes 73 years of Independence and steps into the 74th Anniversary from the next date i.e 16th August 2020. In simple terms to make you understand I will give a proper answer to the question of whether this is India’s 73rd Independence Day or 74th?
If someone asks you before 15th August 2020 how many years completed you have to say 72 Years completed and 73rd year is running, and if they ask after 15th August 2020 you have to say 73 years completed and 74th year running till you get next year 15th August 2021 simple. There is no issue when people ask before or after Independence Day, people get confused mainly on 15th August Independence Day only.
Every year on August 15, the country celebrates its freedom from British rule. As we celebrate independence, we also celebrate India’s rich culture and tradition. On this day, India witnesses a great celebration of independence with tricolor, parades, and cultural performances across the country.
