The trailer for Dune has been released, and at first glance, a spectacular visual feast looms. Directed by Denis Villeneuve of Arrival fame, the sci-fi epic stars a host of stars, including Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Oscar Issac, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, and Josh Brolin.
From the long trailer, the movie definitely looks like an upgraded version of David Lynch’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel. They introduce us to most of the main cast from the beginning of the clip. For the uninitiated, the film is set in a dystopian future and revolves around a family who is assigned responsibility for the planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. While seeking to establish a fortress, the family encounters enemies in the form of notorious giant sandworms, which we get a glimpse of towards the end of the video.
The special effects and the talented cast are the two things that immediately catch your eye as soon as you start watching the trailer. The background music by Hans Zimmer enhances the feel of the film, which is that of an epic sci-fi war drama. Lead actor Timothy, as a young and insecure Paul Atreides, watches the role and appears to have the complexity of wearing the proverbial “heavy crown.” Whether the execution will manage to hold a candle to Herbert’s ambitious story is something only time will tell.
The official synopsis for Dune reads: “The Journey of a Mythical and Emotional Hero, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and talented young man born to a great destiny beyond his comprehension.” , who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As the forces of evil explode in conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence, a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential, only those who can overcome their fear will survive. “
Dune will be released on December 18, 2020.
