The Mayor of Seoul, South Korea who was a potential presidential candidate has been found dead. Mayor Park Won-Soon was reported missing by his daughter had left a cryptic message. He was wanted for a criminal probe and media reports of alleged sexual harassment filed by his secretary since 2017.
A Seoul police officer, early on Friday confirmed the body of the mayor had been discovered on a hill in Northern Seoul, several hours after his daughter had reported him missing.
Word of Mayor’s death has left many people in shock as he was not only a political star also he was a champion of women’s rights.
On Thursday, Mr. Won-soon aged 64 called in sick and canceled his official schedule, the day after his secretary had filed a case for sexual misconduct. He left a will-like message to his daughter and reportedly went missing. Then there was speculation that he might have taken his own life sparked rumors in Media.
The discovery of Mr. Park’s body came after nearly 600 police officers and emergency medical workers, aided by police dogs, searched the hills in northern Seoul, where his cell phone signal had last been detected.
The CCTV images show that Mr. Park left his home in a taxi and got out to the park several minutes later said Choi Ik-su, a senior detective at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. The police found the body with no note on the scene, also there was no sign of Mr. Park being killed by someone else.
Soon after news broke in of his death, his supports gathered and kept shouting “We love you, Park Won-soon!” and gathered around Seoul National University Hospital, where his body had been taken for an autopsy.
