In 1981-82, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways decided to launch a special luxury train that joined highly decorated coaches to offer tourists a luxurious journey through Rajasthan. 26th January 1982, was the first day that Palace On Wheels Steam Race made its first journey through the heritage land of Rajasthan.

The current train is a brand new train, runs on a meter gauge line. It has 13 saloons, a kitchen trolley with 2 restaurants and 4 service trolleys. Guests on the Palace on Wheels are looked after by trained personal attendants, dressed in traditional Rajasthani clothing.

The Royal Train


The Palace on Wheels has 14 luxurious salon coaches fully air-conditioned. The interior of each coach is furnished with the finest taste to enhance the majestic atmosphere of this luxury train.

Accommodation at Palace on Wheels consists of cabins with 2-beds. Each cabin has an attached bathroom with hot and cold water and a shower. Each cabin also has a music service and intercom.
