Karnataka government has planned to teach all professional courses, including engineering, in the Kannada language. “If all goes according to plan, all professional courses, including engineering, will be taught in Kannada statewide beginning with the academic year and the respective translation work for the program has begun,” said Deputy Director CM. Dr. CN Ashwatha Narayana, who is also Minister of Higher Education, said on Sunday, during a webinar organized by the Association of Teachers All Languages Faculty Association of Karnataka University on the subject
“The regional language (mother tongue) will be further strengthened after the implementation of the national education policy and there will be no apprehension about it,” he said.
He added that the NEP emphasizes the provision of professional training in regional languages and therefore governments will push forward measures to achieve the policy ambition.
The regional language must flourish
“Our regional language, Kannada, should also flourish as technology and innovation advance and should exist in all fields. The NEP will not allow foreigners to impose other languages on us. The courses and programs will be designed by our own universities and experts in the field ”, explained the Minister.
