The Covid-19 lockdown has impacted the Sugar Export industry in Maharashtra said Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation Chairman Jayprakash Dandegaonkar.
Between January to June 2020, nearly 36 lakh tonne amount of sugar has been exported which is way below the target of 60 lakh tonne which used to be exported during this period said the official.
Mr. Jayprakash Dandegaonkar also said that “Nearly 570 lakh tonne sugarcane was crushed by sugar mills and 63 lakh tonne amount of sugarcane was produced from November 2019 to June 2020. The export of 36 lakh tonne is completed. Various deals have been signed for another six lakh tonne and sugar is being moved out of the godowns for export”
Most of the sugars would be exported to Indonesia and Iran, he informed and due to the coronavirus lockdown, the exports of sugar have taken a huge hit with decreased export proportions.
