WhatsApp, a popular messaging application worldwide has finally rolled out the Dark Mode for iOS and Android operating systems globally. The dark mode for WhatsApp has been in news for a long time, and the company had tried it for Beta users, releasing updates overtime. However, they took a long time to release dark mode for the public. The dark mode is finally here and users who have dark theme enabled Android 10 and iOS 13 will automatically have Dark WhatsApp theme on their device.
In a blog post, WhatsApp mentioned “Dark mode for WhatsApp offers a fresh look on a familiar experience. It’s designed mainly to reduce eye strain in low light environments. And we hope it helps prevent those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room.”
The latest update is available for users who update the WhatsApp via Google Play Store and App Store respectively. The Dark mode comes in 2 shades, for iOS, it is purely dark and for Android, it is dark grey shade, which WhatsApp said, they have researched and experimented by directing its focus on two major areas for dark mode readability and information hierarchy. They designed the dark theme so that users will not find it difficult while reading and also the distinguished colors make the information stand out.
How to enable dark mode on Android 9 or below
- Update the latest version of App via Google Play Store.
- Go to settings at the top right corner of App, and visit the Chats icon.
- You will notice Theme option in Chats Icon and then
- Choose Dark from the menu and tap OK.
- The manual option to enable the Dark theme should be done for Android 9 or below.
