While we were kids, we used to watch TV shows with the old B&W Television, with only one channel and we used to enjoy while watching the same channel. However, with the onset of cable networks, we were in for a treat as we got to watch many TV shows and spend our day.

10. Shaktimaan
One of the TV shows that everyone remembers even till date is Shaktimaan, telecasted on Doordarshan Shaktimaan is one of the popular shows that every 90’s kid remembers. The show ran for 450 episodes from 13th September 1997 to 27th March 2005 and was famous for its plot where the hero tries to save the world from all evil happenings.
9. Malgudi Days
A short story collection from R. K. Narayan, Malgudi Days was a hit TV show which was filmed in both Hindi and English and was directed by Shankar Nag. The show sketch was developed by R. K Narayan’s brother R.K. Laxman. The series showcases a lesson with each episode and the whole family used to watch the TV show altogether.
8. Shaka Laka Boom Boom
Shaka Laka Boom Boom is one such TV show that was hit among the kids. The show revolved around a magic pencil which would help Sanju the character gets free from all the obstacles that he was facing. The first 30 episodes of the show were aired on DD National and were subsequently taken up by Star Plus in the year 2001.
7. Boogie Woogie
One of the first reality shows dedicated to dance, Boogie Woogie was created by Naved Jaffery, Ravi Behl, and Ashu Jain and was hosted by Javed Jaffery. It is one of the oldest dance reality shows in India and many Indian celebrities such as Mithun Chakraborthy, Juhi Chawla, Esha Deol, Dia Mirza have participated in this TV show.
6. Takeshi’s Castle
Although the character’s played here were not from India, people used to watch Takeshi’s castle for the humorous comedy by Javed Jaffery. With him narrating the game show with comics and wit, people used to watch the show and also laugh at some of the comedy made by Javed Jaffrey.
5. Dekh Bhai Dekh
This Indian sitcom that first aired on DD Metro was one of the TV shows that everyone remembers, due to its humor revolving around family matters everyone remembers the characters of this series. The story revolved around 3 generations of the Diwan Family who live in suburban Mumbai and lead a happy life.
4. Vikram Aur Betaal
The Indian folklore developed into a series had everyone captivated by its script. The series followed the story of King Vikram carrying the corpse of Betaal which would tell him a story en route to the king carrying the ghost Betaal. The series is based on the book Betaal Pachisi which was written by 11th Century Kashmiri poet Somdev Bhatt.

This crime detective series revolved around a crime detective who had a cool sidekick a monkey, and yes a monkey as a sidekick for a detective for which the TV series became a hit where both the detective and the monkey are solving the cases.
2. Rangoli
Sundays were meant to be Rangoli Days. Airing every Sunday morning, Rangoli was an Indian music TV series that was not only popular in India, but it was also popular even in the Middle East, and the US where many Indian nationals resided. The show was hosted by Hema Malini at the beginning where she told the history and BTS stories of most of the songs telecasted on the series.

Of course, the 90’s show never ends with mentioning the 2 epic books of India, Ramayan, and Mahabharat which are still a hit even today. These shows bought every person of the family glued to the Television which everyone of every age used to watch and enjoy. The series became such a hit that during the coronavirus lockdown period, Ramayan was re-telecasted and received praising reviews from the viewers now.
