2019 has been the year of movies, where one can notice many releases such as Hobbs & Shaw, Avengers Endgame, The Irishman, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, etc. Some were released widely in theatres worldwide, some going for limited release, and some released on OTT platforms.

With a user score of 9.0 and Metascore of 96, Parasite is a Korean movie that involves 2 families. The Park Family is rich and Kim’s family who are street-smart. These 2 houses are brought together and Kim senses an opportunity.
Sensing this opportunity, Kim’s children offer tutor service to Park’s family. This runs smoothly until the parasitic interloper threatens their newfound comfort for Kim.
2. Portrait of a Lady on Fire
A French movie where a new painter called Marianne is commissioned to do a wedding portrait of Héloïse a young woman. After the last painter had painted an incomplete picture Marianne is told to paint Héloïse in secret.
Marianne does the painting in secret without the knowledge of Héloïse and then tries to burn it when asked about the meaning of the portrait, she says it is a Portrait of a lady on fire. The movie is rated 95 on Metascore and has a user score of 8.0.
3. The Irishman
Directed by Martin Scorsese, The Irishman is the story of WWII veteran Frank Sheeran portrayed by Robert De Niro who becomes a hustler and hitman and is considered a most notorious figure during the 20th Century.
This epic saga takes on decades by introducing many notable figures that have disappeared without any knowledge. The film ends with Frank admitting his mistakes with the pastor and he ends his life medically. This film has one of the most number of nominations at Golden Globe awards.
4. Marriage Story
A story of a married couple who stay together and compassionately. However, things turn sour and they file for divorce. The story is about how they handle the divorce, go to therapy and try to understand their marriage once again beautifully acted here.
5. Apocalypse Now
The Final Cut: Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Apocalypse Now; The Final Cut is about the 1979 Vietnam War. The Final cut of the movie is midway between the two movies previously released and the same has been added extra footage, also the movie is remastered in a 4K video.
6. The Souvenir
An ambitious film student begins to fall in love with an untrustworthy man who uses her for marrying around. The student disagrees with her mother to make the man please her however she falls into an intense, emotionally fraught relationship that comes dangerously close to destroying her dreams.
The movie is rated 92 on Metascore and 6.8 on the user score tabs.
7. Little Women
Based on a classic novel and directed by Greta Gerwig, Little Women is the story of 5 sisters who are determined to live life on their own terms. However, things do not go as planned and they are subjected to what goes on in society.
8. Uncut Gems
An intense movie about a New York City jeweler who is always on the lookout to make more money. He takes on high clientele, and risk bets while balancing family, gang, and money. However, the jeweler needs to win against all odds and come back clean. The movie is rated 89 in Metascore and 6.6 in user ratings.
9. For Sama
Sama is a documentary movie about war-stricken Aleppo, Syria. It tells us the story of a young mother and her daughter who try to survive in Aleppo during the crisis. Her camera captures stories of joy, happiness, and sorrow.
Also, she is faced to take the decision of staying in the city where she grown-up or fleeing the city in a state of distress and protecting her daughter’s life.
10. The Farewell
It’s a beautifully conceived story of a US-based Chinese daughter who reluctantly returns to China after knowing that her beloved Nai-Nai (Grandmother) is dying. Things turn out worse for the daughter as the family tries to expedite her marriage so as to make Nai-Nai happy and also this helps her to see her large family.
This turns out to be pressurized on the daughter and also she thinks about how some things have changed after moving to a new country. She rediscovers these moments and tries to please her beloved Nai-Nai.
