Ram Prasad Bismil (1897 – 1927)

Ram Prasad Bismil was one of the freedom fighters of India and a revolutionary. He was the person who actively participated in the Mainpuri conspiracy, as well as in the Robkaky Kakori train conspiracy of 1918.

Ram Prasad Bismil was against the rule of the British Empire in India. He was also a great patriotic poet. Ram, Agyaat, and Bismil were known as the pen he used in Hindu and Hindi poetry.

But it became popular with the surname “Bismil” only. He was also a member of Arya Samaj. He was very inspired by Swami Dayanand Saraswathi and his book Satyarth Prakash.

He has also been associated with Lala Har Dayal through Swami Somdev. Swami Somdev was a great preacher of Arya Samaj. He was a member of the Hindustan Republican Association.

History of Ram Prasad Bismil


Bismil was born on June 11, 1897, in Shahjahanpur, in the province of the same name, in British India. His father was Murlidhar. The name of Ram Prasad Bismil’s mother was Moolmati.

He belongs to a Hindu religious family. Bismil went to moulvi to learn Urdu. He learned Hindi from his father. He wanted to enter an English school and get admission to one of these schools, even though his father was not satisfied.

Revolutionary Activities of Bismil


Bismil founded a revolutionary group with the name matrivedi, which means the altar of the fatherland. He met a school teacher named Pt Geneda Lal Dixit.

This meeting was organized by Som Dev. Pt Geneda Lal Dixit was associated with some influential dacoits in the territory.

Ram Prasad Bismil wanted to use the knowledge and authority of the dacoits in the armed revolution against the British Empire in India. Bismil published a booklet called Deshvasiyon ke naam Sandesh, which means “a message for compatriots.”

He distributed the pamphlets with the poetic composition of Mainpuri Ki Pratigya.

The Matrivedi organization needs more funds to do innovative work. On behalf of the Matrivedi organization, Bismil decided to raise funds for the operation of the Indian freedom movement.

On three separate occasions, the matrivedi plan to carry out revolutionary activities for the national independence of India.

As a result of this revolutionary work, a criminal case was brought against many members of the revolutionary organization for the Manipuri conspiracy incident.

Bismil in the Kakori Conspiracy

After the Manipuri conspiracy incident, Pt Geneda Lal Dixit and Bismil were announced as absconders by B.S Chris, Mainpuri Judicial Magistrate.

The trial took place against all the members on November 1, 1919. One of the popular revolutionary operations executed by Ram Prasad Bismil is the Kakori conspiracy.

As a member of the Hindustan Republican Association, Bismil executed the plan to steal the government’s treasury.

On August 9, 1925, the No. 8 downhill train from Saharanpur to Lucknow approached the city of Kakori, which is now located in Uttar Pradesh.

They planned to loot this specific train because the train had to carry the bags of money that belong to the treasury of the British government. They sacked a bag containing the value of 8000 rupees.

Death of Ram Prasad Bismil


The captain of the Bismil group that organized the Kakori conspiracy was arrested by the British police. Ram Prasad Bismil was sentenced to death by British police on December 19, 1927, at the age of 30 years.
